Minster overseas player Gareth Whetnall scored his first century for the club on Saturday and skipper James White is hoping it’s a sign of things to come.

The Australian smashed an unbeaten 102 for Minster as they got back on track, following two successive league defeats, with a nine-wicket victory over Hayes.

Whetnall has averaged just under 40 in Kent League Division 2 and this was his first treble-figure score since joining the Islanders.

White (pictured) said: "He has so much ability on paper – he is something else. To see how good he is when he turns it on is really good.

"He’s great to watch and it’s good to see him in form especially with a game against our local rivals coming up this weekend."

Saturday’s win lifted Minster off the bottom of the table and a win this weekend at High Halstow will leave them in a strong position.

"It was a much-needed win and it’s important that we turn teams over who are down there at the bottom with us," said White.

"A lot of clubs down the bottom this weekend are playing those at the top, so if we get a result it could look good for us.

"On Saturday we showed what we can do when we find our form."
