Everything is awesome now dates have been set for outdoor screenings of The Lego Movie and crowd pleasing musical Grease.

After hundreds of spectators turned up each week for the free open-air film festival organised by Sheerness Enhancement Association for Leisure (SEAL) in Beachfields Park, off Royal Road, Sheerness, in May and June the charity decided to show two more films.

The Lego Movie will be shown on Saturday, August 23 at 8.30pm and Grease will be on Saturday, September 6 at the same time.

It is hoped earlier problems with glare affecting visibility might not be an issue this time as the sun will set earlier.

SEAL has also partnered up with Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey’s film club and on Saturday, August 30 they will be putting on a public showing of Rio 2 at the west site’s theatre in Marine Parade, Sheerness, at 7pm.

The group’s chairman Chris Foulds said he would like to bring the open-air film festival back next year but for now it is working with other groups like the academy and Swale Community Leisure to look at putting screenings on indoors, such as in the sports hall, throughout the year.

He said: “We were going to show the Lego Movie but then the release date was pushed back but we always said we would show it because it’s a good family film.

“We are having a meeting on Friday and we might be able to put on a third film after Grease. If so it will be something for the boys.”

Choices include The Avengers or The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

He added Grease received the most votes in a suggestion box at a Restoration Youth open day.

Previous films to be shown on the giant inflatable screen this year were Disney’s Frozen, Abba musical Mamma Mia!, Oz the Great and Powerful and family classic ET.
