Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey pupils show off their international team spirit at holiday scheme

More than 75 children made the most of a two-week holiday scheme.

They took part in activities organised by Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey based on the theme of around the world and worked in groups to represent a country and compete for the Summer School Cup.

The first week kicked off with games including giant Scrabble which was won by team Italy.

A trip to Hollywood Bowl in Rochester saw Harry Coughlan of team Italy crowned King Pin with a score of 132.

Youngsters also tried their hands at making boomerangs and learnt stories from around the world.

In the second week, pupils learnt the haka, the Maori ceremonial war dance and took part in a spelling bee with Kieran Adams of team USA winning a tense sudden death victory over Casey Smith of team Egypt.

The programme ran from July 28 to Friday and on Thursday, pupils were presented with certificates for their participation.

The cup was presented to victors team China and on the final day children were treated to a trip to Howletts Wild Animal Park, near Canterbury.

Sam Morphey, head of sociology, said: “The students involved were a real credit to the school and behaved impeccably. special mention must be given to our sixth form helpers.”
