Prisoners have been praised for doing a great job in sprucing up the seafront.
A new lick of paint was given to the railings on the beach by Marine Parade, Sheerness, last month.
The work was done by inmates in the Act Swale team, which was set up two years ago by the Community Safety Partnership, Swale council, AmicusHorizon and HMP Standford Hill.
The council’s seafront officer Ian Arnell said it was good value for the authority as he had previously been given a quote of £7,000 and this way it hasn’t cost anything.
He said: “I have had lot of positive feedback from walkers on how it has brightened up the area.
I am now looking to get them back to paint the rest of the railings at Sheerness beach.”
One day a week, a team of inmates, supervised by officers, carry out work not covered by council contractors.
