A police helicopter is helping in a search for a wanted man.

Several residents have reported hearing the chopper circling above Sheerness this evening.

Police say they are searching for a man suspected of assault.

In a tweet, posted shortly before 10pm, the force said: "Police helicopter is currently searching an area of Sheerness for a male suspected of assault and who is wanted by the courts."

Police have been contacted for comment.
