Another primary school on Sheppey has taken the "difficult decision" to close following a rising number of positive coronavirus cases.

Minster Primary School posted a statement on its website this morning explaining the decision.

It said: "With four bubbles closing over the weekend and the associated staff isolation, we have taken the difficult decision to close the school."

The statement did not say how long the Brecon Chase school would remain shut, but it is thought it will be for two weeks.

It is now the second school on the Island to have closed its doors.

On Friday, it was announced that Thistle Hill Academy, also in Minster, would close for a two-week 'circuit breaker' in an attempt to "bring down" the number of Covid-19 cases affecting the school.

Thistle Hill Academy, which has 320 pupils and has implemented a remote learning plan, will stay shut until Monday, November 30.

Over on the mainland, Fulston Manor School and The Oaks Infant School in Sittingbourne both announced yesterday that they would also close for two weeks following a rising number of positive cases.
