Scouts on the Isle of Sheppey are making a splash with their latest wheeze - a virtual water fight.

District Commissioner Andy Brown has filmed himself having a bucket of water thrown over him and has challenged other Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and their relatives to do the same.

He said: "It's only a bit of fun but as we still can't meet because of the coronavirus lockdown we have set up a Sheppey Virtual Scouts Facebook page where we have continued to hold activities which anyone can join in with."

It began with a virtual camp at Easter when Island Scouts, Cubs and Beavers were encouraged to pitch a tent in their back garden and join in with a camp-fire sing-song.

Andy, 55, from Minster said: "We are trying to come up with something for everyone. We've held an I'm A Scout Get Me Out Of Here challenge and are planning a virtual beach party and a virtual film festival."

Andy had his partner Wendy throw the bucket of water over him.

He said: "It was as cold as it looks. With hindsight, I should have filled it up with warm water."

All contestants must stand facing the camera, have water thrown at them from their left side and then pick up their own bucket and throw it to their right.

Andy said: "I only posted my challenge on Sunday morning but I have already had 10 videos sent in. I will be stitching them all together to create what could be the world's biggest water fight.

"We want everyone to take part including mums, dads, sisters, brothers and grandparents. You don't have to be a Scout, either. Everyone is welcome."

The Island is no stranger to water fights having hosted the Sheppey Pirates' landing and giant water fight at Barton's Point Coastal Park in Sheerness for many years.

Sheppey Scouts are using the lockdown to refurbish two of their huts in Imperial Drive, Minster, and Broad Street, Sheerness. Andy added: "Hopefully they will be ready when everyone is allowed back."
