A MAN claims he had his bag stolen by another man after he had been asked for a cigarette lighter.

It is alleged that the 48-year-old was sitting on a bench in Marine Parade, Sheerness, between 11.50am and 1.25pm on Wednesday when he was approached by two men.

One of the men asked to borrow a light and it is claimed that the bag, which was on the bench, was taken while the victim went to get his lighter.

Both men then ran off with the bag, which contained £5 in cash and a mobile phone.

Police are appealing for information and anyone who can help is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
