Wendy King is hoping her winning performance at the National Championships will be enough to convince the England selectors to hand her a place in the country’s Commonwealth Games team.

King, from Halfway, who plays for Milton Regis Bowls Club, won the two wood singles title at Leamington Spa with a 16-5 win over Joan Walmsley and must now wait before an announcement on England’s Delhi 2010 squad is made early next week.

It was the second time she had taken the title after first winning in 2006.

“To play in the Commonwealth Games would be a first for me and there can’t be anything better – it would be fantastic,” said King.

“I know I’ve got a chance but there are 12 people and they only want six. It would be amazing to go, the opportunity of a lifetime.”

King is no stranger to playing on the big stage. Last year she won a silver medal in the ladies’ pairs event in the World Indoor Championships in New Zealand.

She also recently took part in the first women’s event to be staged in Hong Kong.
