Sheppey coach Peter Olliver came out of retirement to lead his side to a 75-3 victory over Whitstable in the RFU Junior Vase second round on Saturday.

Even though Sheppey fielded a weakened team, they were much too strong for a Whitstable outfit against whom they had scored 50 points in a Kent 1 league game a month earlier.

Former Kent three-quarter Olliver, pictured, scored 22 points including two tries, and said: "Because it wasn’t a league game a few of the boys decided to go to the England international and so we were a bit short of players.

"I had to play fly-half and it was great being back out on the park but it was definitely a one-off – I’m 40 next birthday and too old for all that!"

Sheppey are away to New Ash Green in the league on Saturday and Olliver has the benefit of a full squad to choose from after No.8 Dylan Davies confirmed his recovery from a broken leg by coming on for the last 15 minutes against Whitstable.
