Sheppey Rugby Club make changes to training

Sheppey head coach Frank Davis is taking a new approach to training as he seeks to give his side a much-needed boost.

Davis’ side slipped to the foot of Kent 1 on Saturday following defeat at Beccehamians but the coach is hoping that better training facilities can give them the extra edge they need.

Sheppey will be moving their Thursday sessions away from The Ditch for the first time and will be using the all-weather surface at the Minster Academy.

Davis said: "It’s something different and hopefully with better lights and facilities we can get some better work done. It will make training more comfortable and improve the core skills.

"Training in the winter can become a lottery. Last year we had four or five sessions cancelled because of the condition of the pitch. We can now do some quality sessions."

Sheppey will continued to train at The Ditch on Tuesdays.

Last weekend Sheppey suffered an 18-13 defeat and Davis was unhappy at his side’s mentality at the start of the second half. They had been leading 10-8 at the break with a try from Steve Croall and a penalty by Brad Box.

Chris Champ was yellow carded in the second half and in that time, Beccehamians pulled out an 18-10 lead.

Box scored a penalty to reduce the arrears but it wasn’t enough to save Sheppey from another narrow defeat.
