Skateboarders and BMX riders called on the help of television crews to campaign for a new skate bowl with lighting.

Youngsters in Sheerness want to raise awareness for their need for a new place to ride their bikes and skateboards in Sheerness.

They say the fiberglass ramp they have at Beach Fields Youth Zone, near Beach Street, is outdated and too small for the number of users and applied to ITV television’s Fixers for help.

The programme provides a team of experts to help local causes achieve their aims and then puts together a short film to be shown online and on local news programmes.

They are applying for permission to build a new bowl at Beach Fields and will have to raise around £150,000 if they get permission.

On Sunday they turned out to Beach Field to demonstrate, and were joined by a tv crew which helped them make a report to be shown on ITV Meridian East on Wednesday, April 1.

They have come up with a design for the bowl and are getting quotes to make their ideas a reality.

Ray Allen, 23, who has been appointed lead fixer, said: “The current facilities are falling apart and also have health and safety issues. The Fixers campaign will help us kick start the campaign.”
