Work to repair a historic building after it was damaged during bad weather is underway.

St Thomas’s Church at Harty was affected during the storm at the beginning of January.

There was slight damage to the bell tower when a number of the shingle tiles blew away and it also caused problems to the plaster in the porch.

Warden Colin Patience said fortunately the insurance will cover the cost of the repairs, which is estimated to be in the region of £4,000.

Work started at the end of last month and it is hoped it will be finished this week.

Meanwhile, Mr Patience said planning is in full swing for this year’s Flowers in a Country Church Festival.

It will take place on the weekend of July 5 and 6 and there will be a variety of different stalls and refreshments, as well as the Ferry House Inn’s Country Fayre in the field opposite the church.

Organisers hope people who would like to host their own craft stall will get in touch so they can set up there.
