An investigation is under way to find out why a dock worker was seriously injured when he became trapped under a one ton bag of potatoes in the hold of a ship.

It happened at 9am yesterday (June 26) at Sheerness Docks as the ship - the Amer Choapa - was being unloaded.

The 65-year-old man worked for contractors SKS Consultancy Ltd which is based at the docks off Bridge Road.

A SKS spokesman preferred not to comment but a docks spokesman said: "An investigation is under way to find out exactly what happened. The ship had arrived from Cyprus with a load of potatoes from Israel."
