Sheerness Golf Club members battle it out for the club championship title this weekend.

Around 100 players are expected to be competing, with 18-year-old Ben Pullen among the favourite for the club crown.

Local bookies Hilltop Racing are taking bets on the winner and those taking part will all be eager to win the 36-hole scratch competition.

“It’s the most hotly-contested competition we have,” said secretary Alex Tindall.

“Everyone will think they have a chance of winning and a few are in the running for the competition that finds out our best golfer. This is all about prestige and being the club champion.”

Leigh Hales won last year’s event but is no longer a member so a new name will be on the trophy.

Pullen could soon be heading to Amercia for a golf scholarship and has just come out of the club’s junior ranks.

“We certainly do produce some good golfers here,” said Tindall.

Connor Ryan – son of captain Shain – is also likely to be towards the top of the leaderboard, as will Jamie Payton and Adam Ryan.
