A2 in Teynham closed after crash involving cyclist and van

A cyclist has been flown to hospital after being knocked over by a van on the A2.

Emergency crews were alerted to the crash in London Road, Teynham, at around 7.20am.

Police, paramedics in an ambulance and two cars, and the air ambulance helicopter were called to the scene.

The cyclist was treated at the scene before being flown to King's College Hospital in London with a head injury.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called at about 7.25am to a male cyclist who had been knocked off his bike.

"The other vehicle involved was a van. We sent crews in two ambulances and one car.

"The air ambulance joined us at the scene.

"The cyclist had suffered a potentially very serious head injury and was airlifted to King's College Hospital. The air ambulance left just before 9am."

Police were called to the crash shortly after 7.20am and officers remain at the scene.

A spokesman described the cyclist's injuries as "serious".

The road was shut in both directions near the junction with Claxfield Road until around 10.30am.

There were delays in the area throughout the rush hour, but congestion has since cleared.
