Motorists using the Sheppey-bound A249 are being warned to expect delays until the end of the week.

Highways England has updated its travel information to show that one lane will be closed for roadworks until midnight on Friday.

It follows a week of long delays after a stretch of road between Key Street and Bobbing had be closed due to a burst water main on Monday.

Since then, Southern Water has worked around the clock to repair a section of pipe, which led to more than a thousand Sheppey households losing water for nearly 36 hours this weekend.

The problem has since been fixed but the road will remain closed to allow Highways England specialists time to check whether the leak has damaged the road.

There were also complications when a further sinkhole opened on the embankment of the A249.
