A man, 44, from Sittingbourne has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman, 85, from Rectory Road

Police have arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of murder after the death of an 85-year-old woman.

Officers were called to Rectory Road, Sittingbourne, just after 9am today to reports somebody was hurt.

Upon arrival, they found the woman needing urgent help and called in medics, including the air ambulance which landed in the nearby park.

Crews were seen treating the injured woman outside the property, while police forensic officers began investigating.

The woman was pronounced dead en route to hospital. Next of kin have been informed.

A police spokesman added: "Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and have arrested a 44-year-old man, from Sittingbourne, on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.

"The victim and suspect are understood to be known to each other.

"We are not looking for anyone else at this stage."
