Plans to build 32 apartments in Sittingbourne town centre have been submitted to Swale council.

The proposed scheme would be built behind 45-55 High Street, which backs onto Sainsbury’s car park off Roman Square.

A shared outdoor open space area would also be included.

In a planning document, applicant Ocean Property Investments said: “This is an unutilised brownfield site in the town centre and is ripe for development that will allow beneficial use and contribute to the life and vitality of the area, whilst bringing forward much-needed affordable and market housing.”

“By bringing residential units into a town centre it potentially reduces vehicular movements and commuting and thereby benefits air quality within the central area,” it added.
