A book by a top boxing referee who lives in Newington has been attracting enthusiastic reviews.

I Am The Referee sees Ian John-Lewis share his experiences of a lifetime in the ring.

He is one of only five British referees who has refereed the heavyweight championship of the world, as well as being the first black British referee to do so.

Audley Harrison, Amir Khan and David Haye are among those at whose fights he has officiated.

The book’s author, Mark Heffernan, is a physiotherapist at Kent Police where Ian has worked as a custody officer for 18 years.

The book is available from Ian’s website, iamthereferee.com, where among the reviewers quoted is Paul Zanon, of the Daily Sport, who calls it “a good, honest read about a good, honest man within boxing”, while other readers have welcomed the insight into the sport at the highest levels.
