The man who fell to his death from a bridge over the A249 has been named.

Christopher Paul Gordon Wakeman, who had severe autism, had run away from the care home where he lived.

The 23-year-old fell about 20ft from the Quinton flyover shortly before 3.40pm on Monday.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate him at the scene but were unable to revive him.

A post mortem found he had died from multiple injuries and an inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday (Thursday). Mr Wakeman was a resident at Byfield Court care home.

The facility, in nearby Sheppey Way, Bobbing, provides residential support for people with learning disabilities and complex needs.

Police closed the Sheppey-bound carriageway for almost three hours, with traffic backing up to the Stockbury roundabout during rush hour.

Floral tributes and cards have been left at the scene. One message reads: "Dear Chris, May you rest in peace now. So sad. Love Gill xxx."
