A YEAR of celebrating will be on the cards for Sittingbourne Scouts as they commemorate 100 years of Scouting and the 150th birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the world Scouting movement.

The celebrations got under way with a fancy dress competition at Bobbing Village Hall.

More than 70 people attended wearing costumes including Minnie Mouse, a chimney sweep, a young Einstein and Oliver Twist. The winner was six-year-old Lauren Hart, who was dressed as Nora Batty.

As well as a fancy dress competition there was food and games and a special presentation to John and Kay Hammond, who were rewarded for their service to the group.

Other events are being planned throughout the year to continue the centenary celebrations, including a tree-planting session, burying a time capsule and going to the Eurojam event in August.
