Child taken to hospital after being hit by car in College Road, Sittingbourne

A child has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

Police and ambulance crews were called to College Road in Sittingbourne at 6.10pm yesterday evening following the accident.

The child, who was a pedestrian, was treated for injuries at the scene and taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The road was closed until shortly before midnight last night.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 6.10pm on Tuesday, July 13 regarding a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in College Road, Sittingbourne.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where the pedestrian, a child, was treated for injuries and was then taken to hospital for further medical attention.

"The road was closed while emergency services made enquiries into the incident and reopened at 11.50pm."

An ambulance service spokesman said crews attended and were joined by the air ambulance service.

He added that the child was assessed and treated for injuries including a head injury before being taken to Medway hospital by road.

The child's injuries are not described as life-threatening.
