An Olympic gold medallist and Dancing on Ice judge has donated 30 gowns to a Bobbing hospice.

Jayne Torvill handed over the dresses, which she wore while appearing on the ice-skating show, to Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

The items range from designer through to high street brands and come in a myriad of colours and lengths.

One of the cream dresses will go to Demelza's bridal boutique in Canterbury, just in time for Saturday, February 29 - traditionally the date when women propose to men.

A second cream dress will go up for auction on the charity's eBay.

Ms Torvill said: "As a proud ambassador of Demelza Hospice Care for Children, I’m delighted the dresses will be put to good use raising funds for the children and their families supported by this amazing charity, as well as raising awareness of the work Demelza does across Kent, East Sussex and south east London."

Ashley Henson, director of retail at Demelza, said: "As a charity, we're almost entirely dependent on the generosity of our supporters to provide the funds that keep our services going so a huge thanks to Jayne for this generous donation and the opportunity for one of our supporters to buy a piece of TV history.

"The bridal boutique in Canterbury stocks a fantastic array of wedding outfits and we are delighted to be able to offer such a beautiful dress as we come into the wedding season.

"We look forward to seeing as many brides-to-be come and see the dress and hear of any proposals on Saturday."
