Police are warning shoppers to be aware after a woman had cash stolen from her purse following a distraction theft in ASDA car park in Sittingbourne.

The 61 year old victim was reversing out of a space in the car park at around 1pm on Monday, December 1, when a dark car blocked her exit. The male driver of the vehicle was holding a fold-out map and beckoned the victim over asking her directions to Tunbridge Wells. After assisting the man, he drove off slowly and the lady returned to her car and checked her purse to find a large quantity of cash had been stolen.

The driver of the vehicle is described as Iranian looking with very short dark hair, stubble, of stocky build and approximately 40-years-old. He was wearing a dark cardigan and a light shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police in Sittingbourne on 01795 419182 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
