Special Constables arrest Sheerness driver in Chestnut Street, Sittingbourne

A woman was arrested under suspicion of drug driving by Special Constables carrying out routine safety checks on vehicles.

The officers were stopping drivers in Chestnut Street, Sittingbourne - the old A249 - yesterday when they arrested the 38-year-old.

The woman from Sheerness was taken to custody and later released, while investigations continue.

The officers, who volunteer for the force for 16 hours every month, also seized the vehicle as it was believed to be uninsured.

They also handed out 10 speeding tickets to motorists who were breaking the 30mph limit, the fastest was doing 48mph.
