Two crashes have caused long delays for motorists on the A249 this evening.

Drivers are reporting gridlocked traffic on the Maidstone-bound carriageway following the accidents that happened almost simultaneously at tow different points on the road.

The first happened near the bottom of Detling Hill at 4.17pm.

Three cars were involved, including an orange Kia Sportage, a silver Ford Focus, and another vehicle.

The second smash happened just minutes later at 4.20pm when a grey Seat Ibiza collided with red Hyundi just before the Stockbury roundabout.

Queues built up back to Bobbing and drivers trying to get off the Isle of Sheppey reported delays of up to 40 minutes to get over the bridge.

No one is thought to have been seriously injured in either accident.
