Fire at boiler room at fitness centre, London Road, Sittingbourne

Firefighters were called to deal with a blaze at a gymnasium.

The small blaze had broken out in a boiler room at the premises in London Road, Sittingbourne.

Two fire engines were sent out at 4.35pm but crews were able to put out the flames in half an hour.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a fire at a fitness centre.

"The fire was contained within the plant room and is being treated as accidental."

The exact physical cause of the fire is not yet confirmed.

But KFRS said that it had called out workers from UK Power Networks to examine the scene to see if there had been an electrical problem.
