People living in the Sonora Way and Quinton Road area of Sittingbourne were told to close doors and windows because of smoke from a large haystack fire in a nearby field.

Two fire crews were initially sent to the scene to tackle the blaze and used drag rakes and a water jet to stop the fire spreading.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service appealed to those on social media to alert residents who were not using the internet.

A spokesman said: "If you know someone who isn't online who needs to know this information, please make sure you let them know as soon as possible."
