First archery show

Three schools took the chance to hold the area’s first archery festival.

Sittingbourne Community College, Westlands and Meadowfields schools fielded teams as well as a guest side from Maidstone Crown Archers Club.

Junior archers shot six dozen arrows, four dozen at 30 yards and two dozen at 20 yards, while the teacher and guest teams shot the same but four dozen arrows at 60 yards and two dozen at 50 yards.

The result of the shoot was close. Sittingbourne Community College took first place while Westlands was second and Meadowfields School came third.

Individual awards went to Alice Hudson (SCC) under 13 girls, Robyn –Marie Kenyon (Westlands) over 13 girls, Robert Finn, over 13 Boys.

Special thanks went to Tim East from Kent Archery Association and Kay Holliman archery development officer for their support and Mike Newall and David Fleet for scoring.
