Multiple accidents and flooding has caused major congestion on a motorway.

Large queues have formed on the M2 London-bound between Junction 5 at Sittingbourne and Junction 4 for Gillingham, as heavy rain causes chaos on roads across the county.

Lanes have been blocked by flooding, with the motorway down to just one lane at two points near the Medway Services.

And a series of accidents, believed to be minor, have also contributed to delays, including one in the London-bound queues.

A car struck the central reservation on the coast-bound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 5 and 4 this morning. No injuries have been reported.

Traffic from Sheppey and Sittingbourne heading for the M2 at the Stockbury Roundabout was queuing back to Bobbing.

It took one motorist two hours to travel from Minster on Sheppey to Gillingham.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place for Kent until 3pm today.
