A leisure centre swimming pool has been given the all-clear to reopen and is celebrating by giving everyone a free swim today.

The Swallows Leisure Centre in Central Avenue, Sittingbourne, shut its pools on August 1 after concerns about a small number of diarrhoea cases.

It remained shut as a precautionary measure until today, after test results came back clear showing no risk to swimmers.

Dave Harcourt, executive officer of Swale Community Leisure which runs the facility, said: “We’re pleased to advise that our tests have confirmed the safety of the pools’ water and they will therefore be re-opening today.

"We are contacting all of our members individually about compensation for the closure.

"We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while we took this precaution and we look forward to welcoming swimmers back to the centre.”

Today, there will be lane swimming until 10am, family fun with waves until 5pm and then more lane swimming until 9pm.
