Tributes have been paid to a popular teacher who has died after a year-long battle with cancer.

Belinda Gaiger passed away surrounded by family and friends last week aged 47.

The mum-of-two was in her third year as teacher at Iwade primary.

In a statement released by the school, Mrs Gaiger, known to staff as “Be”, was praised as a “wonderful character who wore her heart on her sleeve”.

It said: “She was a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher who was highly regarded by parents.

“Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this sad time.”

The school is collecting donations towards Berkshire-based St Marks Hospital Foundation (FAP Fund) in accordance with Mrs Gaiger’s wishes.

A spokesman said an assembly will be held in her memory “at an appropriate time”.
