Imagine biting into a cob of sweetcorn and discovering a worm inside.

That is what happened to Bethany Webster's mum when she tried to tuck into a meal at Sittingbourne's KFC restaurant in Mill Way.

A shocked Bethany posted a photo of the grub on Facebook and warned readers to beware of eating there.

She said: "Be careful!! My mum was about to eat her corn and then we realised there was a maggot or something embedded in the corn. This is disgusting!"

She told Kent Online: "KFC ended up giving my mum a refund but they weren't going to at first. It wasn't until my mum said she would go to environmental health that they gave her a refund."

She says the maggot was found on Wednesday evening at 8.15pm.

A KFC spokesman said: ‘‘This looks like a corn borer which would have come from inside the corn before it was cooked.

"No-one likes to see this but it is perfectly natural and can happen when dealing with fresh, natural food.

"That said, we take food hygiene very seriously and we’re sorry for Bethany’s mum’s experience.”

A corn borer is a moth that lives in corn fields and feeds on grain.
