Children got a few welcome bites during a junior fishing competition on Sunday.

It was organised by the Kemsley Community Angling Preservation Society (KCAPS) for five- to 17-year-olds at a lake off Newman Drive.

There were seven entrants whose freshwater catches included perch, roach and skimmers.

It is the second time the contest has been held and there were prizes for everyone who took part.

KCAPS chairman William Gergus said: “We were a bit short on numbers but everyone was catching fish.

“This event is about giving something back to the community and among the anglers were two young girls, one of whom was aged five.

“There were experienced anglers on hand to show the kids how to fish and everyone had a really good time.”
