Sittingbourne man Wayne Albone charged over knife raid on Chaucer News

A man has been charged over a knife raid on a Sittingbourne newsagent.

Wayne Albone, of College Road, Sittingbourne, is accused of robbing Chaucer News, in Chaucer Road.

The 27-year-old is also charged with possessing cannabis, driving while disqualified and using a car without third-party insurance.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 2.

Police were called at 6.45pm on December 12 last year to a report of a robbery in progress at the newsagent.

Two men wearing balaclavas were reported to have entered the convenience store and threatened a staff member with what is believed to have been a knife.

They left empty-handed and were seen getting into a vehicle.

Enquiries to locate a second man are ongoing.
