M2 closed between junctions 4 for Gillingham and 5 for Sittingbourne

The nearside lane of the coastbound carriageway of the M2 was closed following a four-vehicle crash between junction 4 at Gillingham and junction 5 at Stockbury for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone this morning.

One man was taken to hospital. It was reported queues stretched back three miles.

Police said they were called just after 8am.

A spokesman said: "We were called to a collision reported to involve four vehicles on the coastbound M2 between junctions 4 and 5.

"The incident caused a live lane to become obstructed, however, traffic is now reported to be flowing."

He said South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and took one man to hospital.

The crash happened near the A249 turn-off where the motorway is only two lanes wide.
