A van driver needed hospital treatment after his eyesight was damaged when a laser pen was shone at him.

The man, who is in his 30s, was driving through Kemsley at about 7pm on November 12, when he was targeted.

A group of youths were seen on a green in Vaughan Drive and one of them is thought to have pointed the laser at the van.

The driver had to go to hospital as a result of the injuries he suffered.

Police have warned of the dangers of using a laser and reminded people that it is a crime to target people.

PC Steven Bassett said: “Shining a laser pen into someone’s eyes or at a moving vehicle is not only a criminal offence, but it is dangerous.

“I would encourage anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information to contact police as you may be able to help with our ongoing inquiries.”
