A lorry driver has died after a crash on the A2 near Sittingbourne.

It is believed the man, in his 40s, suffered a suspected heart attack at the wheel of his cab before the articulated lorry veered off the road and crashed into a row of trees near a care home.

A police spokesman said: "The driver died in hospital following a suspected medical episode at the wheel.

"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing."

It is understood the driver, who was airlifted to King's College Hospital, London, by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance helicopter, came from abroad.
