'Machete attack': James Hilden of Sittingbourne charged

A 53-year-old man has been remanded in custody following an alleged machete attack.

The incident, which caused no injuries, is reported to have taken place in Chalkwell Road on Friday evening.

Later that same night, a machete is reported to have been used to damage a car before a pick-up truck was driven into a further five parked vehicles.

Homeless James Thomas Hilden was arrested the following evening after being identified as a suspect.

He was charged with affray, criminal damage and threatening a person with a bladed article yesterday.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on a date to be arranged.
