A man who suffered chest injuries after being run over by a tractor in Upchurch is due to be discharged from hospital today.

Brian Kingsley-Smith was flown to King's College Hospital in London with potentially life-threatening injuries following the incident in Horsham Lane on Saturday.

It is understood the retired planning solicitor, believed to be in his 70s, was trying to restart the farm vehicle with a hand-crank when it ran over him.

Speaking from the family home, Mr Kingsley-Smith's wife Anne said: "He's OK. He's still at King's, in fact I'm waiting to hear if they're going to discharge him today."

Talking about the accident, she said: "There were two men, who are friends, with him at the time.

"I don't know what happened exactly because I was indoors at the time and it wasn't possible to speak to him until yesterday.”

Police plus two ambulances and a car were also called to the scene at 10.35am.
