Preparations were today being made at Sittingbourne's McDonald's ahead of its reopening tomorrow.

Workers were clearing and cleaning the outside of the fast-food giant's branch on the Sittingbourne Retail Park, in Mill Way, which will open at 11am – but only for delivery. The Drive-Thru will not be open to the public.

The store will be one of three branches across the county to re-open in such a way.

Customers will only be able to order food via the Uber Eats app and orders will have a £25 spending limit.

There will also be a limited menu – including many of its burgers, chicken nuggets, Fillet-o-Fish, fries and hot drinks range – and breakfasts will not be available.

All restaurants and car parks will remain closed.

Chief executive Paul Pomroy said: "I want to reiterate the restaurants, Drive Thrus and their car parks remain closed, we will only be serving food via Uber Eats this week.

"I want to thank the franchisees, managers and employees who are busy preparing for this reopening and wish them all the best for what will undoubtedly be a busy return to the communities in which they operate."

An Uber Eats spokesman said: “The safety of everyone who uses the Uber Eats app is a top priority.

"We regularly remind couriers to keep a safe 2m distance from others when picking up from restaurants, and have worked closely with McDonalds on the first phase of reopenings.

"Additionally we have distributed 1 million masks to drivers and couriers as well as hand sanitizers to couriers in the UK.”

A further 30 pilot restaurants in the UK and Ireland, offering service through the Drive-Thru lane, will reopen next Wednesday – also capped at £25.
