A motorist had a lucky escape when two yobs threw a large stone from a bridge.

The incident happened as the man was driving a grey Volkswagen Caddy van under the bridge near the Bobbing turn off on the A249 Maidstone bound carriageway at 3.30pm on Monday.

The windscreen cracked but did not shatter. The driver, who was left shaken, claims the stone was thrown by two teenage boys on the bridge.

They are described as between 14 and 17 years old. One was wearing a pale yellow T-shirt and the other a white T-shirt with writing on it.

Sittingbourne Neighbourhood Sgt Dan Worthington said: "This behaviour is unacceptable and police will not tolerate it. Having an object thrown at you while driving could result in tragedy. The people who did this clearly have no thought for people's safety or lives. We will be stepping up patrols in the area to try to catch those responsible."

Anyone with information may contact Sittingbourne police station on 01795 419345 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
