Police charge man with murder of Sittingbourne woman Jean Robertson

Police have charged a man with murder following the death of an 85-year-old woman in Sittingbourne on Thursday.

Stuart Lay, 44, of Homewood Avenue, Sittingbourne, was arrested by detectives over the death of Jean Robertson.

Emergency services were called to Rectory Road at just after 9am to reports a person was seriously injured.

An air ambulance landed in Rectory Park and she was treated by paramedics, but later dies en route to hospital.

A police patrol car was stationed outside the victim's home yesterday and floral tributes could be seen outside.

Lay appeared before Medway magistrates this morning and was remanded in custody to appear in Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have charged a man with the alleged murder of an 85-year-old woman in Sittingbourne."
