A four-storey hotel could be built in the town centre.

As revealed in last week's Sittingbouren Messenger, plans have been submitted to Swale council for a new 56-room Travelodge with a pay and display car park to be built on the Euro Car Parks site behind the Bell Centre off Avenue of Remembrance, Sittingbourne.

The application has been submitted by Travelodge and Bell Sittingbourne Ltd which owns the Bell Centre and Bell House.

Letters were sent to residents on Friday, November 12, informing them of the proposal and that they have 21 days to submit any comments.

Bell Sittingbourne has also submitted a number of other planning applications relating to the Bell Centre premises in Bell Road.

One is for the retention of Bell House for continued office use including minor alterations and changes within the car park.

Another is for outline planning permission of the demolition of the former supermarket building and the erection of either a four or five storey sheltered housing building and a four storey building for 14 flats.

If approved, the plans would also include a new foyer access to the former nightclub at first floor level and demolition of 4 Bell Road and two units in the arcade to develop a medical centre with six flats above.
