Sittingbourne's newest micropub could open as early as the end of this month.

Sara Seabridge and her husband Paul are converting a former clothes shop in the High Street, next to Baileys sandwich bar, into a mini-pub called The Yellow Stocks.

The 52-year-old said partition walls had been put in so that it had a chiller room and toilet.

"It’s all getting there," Sara said.

“It should only be another couple of weeks and, with any luck, we should be up and running.”

When asked the reason behind the name of the micropub, Sara said it refers to a type of brick that used to be manufactured in Sittingbourne because the couple wanted a name reflecting the town’s heritage.

The Sittingbourne resident said the venue will follow a set of rules micropubs generally abide by designed to foster conversation and a friendly atmosphere.

This includes no music, televisions or noisy machines, while mobile phones are often banned.

The Yellow Stocks will have a capacity of 25 people and serve Kent ales, ciders and some gins.

Opening hours are planned to be between 12.30pm and 8.30pm on weekdays and between 11am and 11pm at weekends.

Sara, who is also company secretary at Phoenix House, said: “The building started trading as a shop in 1905, so it’s got an Edwardian-style to it.

“We’re keeping it tranquil and it will have a nice chilled atmosphere, with a bit of humour.”

Sittingbourne already boasts two other micropubs: The Paper Mill, in Charlotte Street, and Donna’s Ale House, in West Street.

Sara said she and husband Paul, who have five children and three grandchildren, were very much looking forward to opening. “We’re keen to get up and running and meet lots of new people now,” Sara said.
