Pictures show works on 40m landslip at Newington which shut line beteween Sittingbourne and Gillingham

New pictures show railway engineers making "good progress" on a landslip which shut a train line for two weeks.

Trains between Sittingbourne and Gillingham were cancelled after a 40m landslip in Newington last month.

A fortnight of repairs kicked off on Sunday, January 24, with commuters warned to find another route or use the bus replacement service.

The line will is expected to reopen this Monday if no more delays occur.

Pictures from Network Rail show diggers at the site of the railway which was originally built in 1858, where the line is cut 13m deep into the surrounding hill.

It said: "We’re making good progress on work to repair the landslip at Newington between Sittingbourne and Gillingham with the sheet piling to hold back the side of the cutting now in.

"The line will reopen on Monday."

Engineers have been working since it happened to get the line back up and running.
