Nursing home worker denies sex charges

Harry Perara will stand tril at Maidstone Crown Court

A CARE worker was committed on Monday to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court accused of two charges involving touching a woman with a mental disorder in a sexual manner.

Staff nurse Harry Perera, 56, of William Street, Sittingbourne, worked at the Frank Lloyd nursing home in the town’s Bell Road. He was committed by town magistrates and given conditional bail.

Mr Perera has pleaded not guilty to the charges which allegedly happened on March 28.

His arrest was the trigger for Swale Primary Care Trust to call in the Healthcare Commission to assess the quality of services at the NHS-run home, which is next to Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital.

The trust immediately brought in a new management team as a result of the commission’s findings.
