Part of a dual carriageway is closed in one direction for the next three weekends.

The Maidstone-bound A249 between Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, and the Stockbury Roundabout is completely shut while drainage is installed, as part of a multi-million pound project to create a new road layout.

The closure started on Friday, with a lane closure, before the 2.8-mile stretch was fully closed this morning.

The closure will last until Monday, June 13.

This will also be the case from 6am on Saturday, June 18, until 5am on Monday, June 20.

For drivers wanting to head towards Maidstone from the Bobbing roundabout, there will be a diversion in place via Sheppey Way, Chestnut Street and Maidstone Road.

National Highways says the weekend closures are due to start from this Friday, June 10. Picture: National Highways

This will bring you to the Stockbury roundabout, where you can continue your journey.

The closures come just a little over a week since it was announced that the six-week closure of Oad Street has been extended until Monday, June 20.

These roadworks come as preparation work to install a flyover and new slip roads at the roundabout continues.

This will include the permanent closure of the direct slip-road from the A249 to the coastbound M2 – although traffic will still be able to access the coastbound M2 via the first exit on the roundabout.

If you have any questions about the scheme, on the second Wednesday of each month, a member of the National Highways team will be available between 10am and midday at Oad Street Food and Craft, Borden, to answer any queries.
