Police hunt 'runaway thief' in Sittingbourne

Police are searching for a suspected runaway thief.

Officers were was called to a report of two men travelling in a suspected stolen vehicle in Swale Way, Kemsley, at noon today.

A police spokesman said: "Officers located the van in stationary traffic and, as they approached it, two men are reported to have made off on foot."

Following a search of the area a 17-year-old boy from Sittingbourne was arrested on suspicion of theft.

He remains in custody.

The police spokesman added: "Enquiries to locate a second individual remain ongoing."

It is understood the van was stopped near Stanhope Avenue, Sittingbourne, and the men ran off into gardens.
